Georgia Fish Self portrait: transcendence to self discovery
In my body of work I investigate the core human experience – the psychology of the human mind – using a range of metaphorical and symbolic references. The Australian landscape and the birds have significant personal meaning, and I have used light and dark to express my psychological state. I chose ravens as they traditionally symbolise intelligence and longevity. The birds are represented as guides to transformation, demonstrated through the portraits where the birds transform from conflicting the mind to transcending and freeing myself of the turmoil of a burdened mind. I included my school uniform to heighten this contrast.
